The much-loved 2001 film starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel was re-released in selected theaters across India this past weekend and despite the limited screen count, Gadar has managed to make a strong impact at the box office.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, a romantic tale that captured the hearts of millions, has outperformed DDLJ’s opening weekend collections, even with a significantly lesser number of screenings. Yes, Sunny Deol’s Gadar achieved a much higher 3-day weekend collection compared to the re-release of Shah Rukh Khan’s DDLJ. According to Box Office India, Gadar earned a net collection of Rs 1.60 crore in its opening weekend, with Rs 45 lakh on Friday, Rs 55 lakh on Saturday, and Rs 60 lakh on Sunday. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha underwent a remarkable remastering process in 4K with new VFX enhancements. Reports suggest that the remastering cost for Gadar Ek Prem Katha was approximately Rs 2 crore. Even after factoring in the nominal re-release expenses, the impressive opening weekend numbers indicate that the film’s makers are poised to turn a profit from this re-release.

Gadar is undeniably one of the most iconic blockbusters in the history of Hindi cinema and has attained cult status over the years. Starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in the lead roles, the film left an indelible mark on the audience.
